ABOUT US
A space for independent free creation and community transformation
Vice Versa Triangle was founded by documentary filmmaker Efim Graboy in the village of Gardinovci, Serbia, as a response to a growing need: to create art not as a commodity, but as a medicine for the soul.

After years of working in Tel Aviv and other cities, Efim realized that modern urban life often forces artists into survival mode, leaving little space for true creation. Surrounded by noise, deadlines, and financial stress, many creators lose their voice and their freedom. In contrast, when he edited his first feature film in nature — in an eco-village in Argentina and later in the mountains of Galilee — he discovered how creativity could become a healing, grounding process. This vision grew into Vice Versa Triangle: a bridge between civilization and nature, art and community, the personal and the collective.

Our Mission
We believe that art is medicine and that cinema, in particular, is a gateway into the collective unconscious. Here, artists immerse themselves in nature, in the life of a village, and in their own inner processes. Through workshops, residencies, and cultural exchanges, they transform personal experience into creative works that heal, inspire, and connect.

Why Gardinovci?
We chose to build in Gardinovci — a small village on the Danube, with 850 residents — precisely because it was unexpected. It is a place often overlooked, yet full of life, wisdom, and potential. Here, creators from around the world meet villagers who live close to the land. The residency serves as a mediator between two worlds: artists seeking balance and authenticity, and villagers seeking access to cultural and creative experiences. Together, they form a shared community.

What We Do
  • We host international residencies and workshops across disciplines — film, photography, music, sculpture, and writing. Participation is free; in exchange, participants share their expertise with the local community and contribute to the care and cultivation of the land.
  • Connect artists with local families, creating deep cultural exchange.
  • Offer masterclasses for local children and residents, giving access to creative tools.
  • Develop programs in partnership with cultural institutions such as the Academy of Arts – Novi Sad, Filmkultura, and the Šajkaška Cultural Heritage Association.
  • Work toward transforming the old cinema hall in Gardinovci into a temple of cinema — a space for screenings, film festivals, and the birth of a new school of transformative cinema.

Our Vision
Vice Versa Triangle is not only about producing art — it is about building a community of transformation. We see Gardinovci becoming a cultural center where artists, scientists, and thinkers from across the world converge with local residents. Together they generate new knowledge, heal traumas, nurture empathy, and open new possibilities for future generations.
Our long-term vision is to create a School of Cinema-Medicine: a place where cinema is practiced as a ritual, a healing act, and a gateway into collective consciousness. Here, the land, the trees, and the village itself become part of the curriculum. Students learn from nature, contribute to the community, and create works that carry medicine for the audience.

At its heart, Vice Versa Triangle is about freedom: freedom for artists to create outside of systems of consumption and populism, and freedom for communities to connect through art, empathy, and imagination.

    International Photo Collective – Gardinovci
For two consecutive years, Vice Versa Triangle has hosted a week-long intensive photography collective in Gardinovci. Each edition brings together six international photographers and an experienced mentor to immerse themselves in village life, staying with local families for the duration of the program.
Throughout the week, participants create original photo projects inspired by their observations and interactions with the community. The process includes daily reviews, collaborative discussions, and guided mentorship.
Core Team
The residency is built as a living collective. Each of us contributes voluntarily—sharing time, skills, instruments, and energy—to create and sustain this space.

The ecosystem grows organically through collaboration with the residents of Gardinovci, with local artists and supporters, with community members who volunteer each year, with Serbian and foreign citizens who believe in the vision, and with former participants who return to continue shaping the residency.
  • Efim Graboy
    Founder
An award-winning filmmaker, video therapist, and mentor, Efim Graboy transformed his path to establish Vice Versa Triangle. His first encounter with Serbia was in 2017, during the “Interaction” film camp—an experience that deeply shaped his artistic journey and connection to the region. In 2021, he moved to Gardinovci, where together with refugees, locals, and friends, he began building an art residency rooted in community, nature, and solidarity.

Efim also works as a teacher and consultant, guiding artists in developing their projects, refining their creative visions, and navigating both artistic and practical challenges.

The mission of the residency is to create a space for free, avant-garde, and non-capitalist art, where artists are not bound by age, nationality, or style, and where cultural exchange between residents and the village can flourish. Standing at the intersection of nature and civilization, the residency is envisioned as a place where art balances forces, resists erasure, and imagines new possibilities.
