My work is driven by curiosity and interest in people - the way they look, where they come from, and what their story might be. Photography allows me to approach new places and strangers, to get to know the place through the people I meet.  Through my photographs, I try to bring attention to the strange and unique qualities that exist within the ordinary and everyday.
During my stay in Gardinovci, I photographed the people I met and the environments in which they live. I was drawn to the coexistence of old and new, to the slower rhythm of everyday life, and to the close relationship between people, their homes and their animals. As we didn't speak the same language, I could only observe and photograph without talking, communicating through smiles and hand gestures. Still, people welcomed me into their houses, showing it with pride and generosity. 
I found myself thinking about how ordinary these things looked to them, and how unusual they looked to me - how different, yet how similar we are.
