As I am

by Ádám Zsiros, Hungary

Made in collaboration with Marko Jovanov

I lost my mom to cancer in April and since then, grief has filled my days. Coming to the residency I planned to photograph someone who also lost their parent or a parent who lost their child. On the first day, my housemate, Marko told me that he lost his mom in the past year, so we started talking and we agreed to work together on my project. We have many similarities in our circumstances, I think of this encounter as even fateful. In the beginning of our photography process I was directing everything, but later I realized that if I want to collaborate, I have let go of controlling everything. And I also have to let go of expectations of the final result, and be present in creating. The main lesson from both the project and grief process is that there are always going to be things that we cant control. Accepting this fact makes life easier.

Poem
Headband around my head, pulling tight
Ease comes with the evening air

Grass is blessed by morning dew
Heat of the sun dries it soon

Breathe, stretch and hug tight
Tears do clean me, not only might

The play is over, curtains close
Sun greets me as I am
So does everyone else
Made on
